Voting Question: Cracked iPad 2 screen.?

I got an ipad 2 for christmas and today i dropped it off the edge of the couch. At first I didn't notice anything wrong but after a while I noticed the crack. It's not too big or noticeable and the touch screen still works. We didn't get the warranty and i was wondering if i should try and get it fixed. I heard you can get it fixed once for free. we live near lubbock tx and we ordered it from the apple website. Ideas??? is there anything special i can do to prevent it from getting worse?...
